ESXI Failed to power on virtual machine <vm-name>. The attempted operation cannot be performed in the current state (Powered off).

I some times get this, mostly because I remove the ISO that is attached as an dvd to the virtual machine. Usually after I have installed an OS. This is very annoying.

But I have now found the solution, again. I know I have “googled” for this before, I just couldn’t remember how to fix the problem.

The solution is to just unregister the virtual machine and then register i again.

This can be done using the right-click menu in ESXI, at least in v6.5 I am running on my old HP ml350p gen8 server.
